Perhaps Salman Moghadasi is right. At first look, it is difficult to discover a relationship between his works and Islamic art. However, the extent of their reliance on Islamic culture and civilization becomes evident when you begin to analyze his works.
Despite his strong interest in other cultures' art, he considers himself an heir and adherent of Islamic art.
Salman Moghadasi says: I constantly try to make sure that my art is relatable to all people, regardless of their culture or nationality. However, if someone pursues a deeper understanding beyond this initial link, they will find an answer based on their level of curiosity and interest, just as in Islamic architecture, profound levels of philosophy and civilization lie beneath the visible shape and space.
The End and Beginning
A magnificent four-by-two-meter monolithic artwork, it was made using acrylic and traditional, natural colors on burlap texture.
The two dots of "Raheem" in the lettering of "Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem" (بسم الله الرحمن الرحیم, commonly known as In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful) are the inspiration for the piece's title, "The End and Beginning," the artist claims.
In the writing of "Bismillah Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem," the dots of the word "Raheem" are the termination of "Bismillah," although "Bismillah" is regarded the beginning of every journey. As a result, the work connects "Bismillah"'s ending and beginning to everything that follows.
A powerful black line runs through the center of the artwork, beginning in the top left corner, twisting into the painting and exiting from the lower left corner with a strong movement.
This line separates the space of the piece into two parts, while at the same time conveys a sense of flow and vitality. The work's orange-brick background is adorned with yellow brushstrokes that resemble the golden border patterns found in miniature and Quranic illuminations.
These brushstrokes take the shape of free vertical and horizontal lines.
The little and large black dots surrounding the main line offer a sense of emancipation and movement to the composition while also balancing it.
"The End and Beginning" is regarded as one of Salman's most daring works, as it conveys complex and profound ideas with a minimal of visual elements. The work's boldness is rooted in its simplicity and strength.
A single, seemingly straightforward black line is intended to evoke movement and flow while also giving the observer a feeling of philosophical and spiritual depth.
Furthermore, the usage of negative space around the line, as well as the combination of orange, brick, and yellow colors, have resulted in a visual balance that both calms and forces the observer to ponder.
This line is a journey that transports the observer to a world of movement and stillness, where the significance of each part of the work varies according to the viewer's personal viewpoint and experience.
The utilization of acrylic on burlap texture, with natural and traditional hues, not only adds authenticity to the work, but also bridges the gap between tradition and contemporary art.
This piece is a unique illustration of Salman's capacity to express meaning with few details; it just transcends time and space.
