Omar ElNagdi, the most expensive Egyptian artist at Bonhams 2023 / The 100th appearance of Sadegh Tabrizi's works in international auctions
On the night when the painting "Sitting Figure" by Omar El-Nagdi, the late Egyptian artist, broke the sales record, "Lovers" by Sadegh Tabrizi and five great masters of Iranian art were also sold.
ArtDayMe : Kimia Nakhaei: Bonhams latest modern and contemporary Middle Eastern art auction in 2023 ended its work on January 31, the artworks of six Iranian artists including Sadegh Tabrizi, Sirak Melkonian, Ardeshir Mohasses, Monir Farmanfarmaian, Leyly Matine Daftary and Hossein Zenderoudi were well received by buyers.
In this auction, a small work from Sadegh Tabrizi's "Lovers" series from the 70s, which was executed with oil on canvas in dimensions of 45 x 35 cm, with an initial estimate of 4 to 6 thousand pounds, was sold for 6120 pounds.
An untitled painting (related to 1969 AD) by Sirak Melkonian, an Iranian artist, with the dimensions of 69 x 97 cm, which belonged to a private collector in America; was sold for 15,300 pounds and was one of the most expensive Iranian artworks of this auction.
Also, the pther Iranian artists whose artworks were well received by buyers in this auction were Hossein Zenderoudi (3187 pounds), Lili Matin Daftari/two artworks (2550 and 2825 pounds), Monir Farmanfarmaian (2550 pounds) and Ardeshir Mohasses/two artworks (510 pounds).
In this online auction, one hundred and one artworks of well-known artists from the Middle East and North Africa region, including Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Morocco were presented. The most expensive artwork sold in this auction was the painting "Seated Figure" by the late Egyptian artist Omar El-Nagdi, with dimensions 85 x 57 cm, dated 1991, which was sold for 25,500 pounds.
This auction was held while it was the 100th appearance of Sadegh Tabrizi’s artwork in an international auction.
