Clouds of Miguel Rodrigues in DIFC Sculpture Park / A Presentation of AWC Dubai

ArtDayMe: Azadeh Jafarian: The DIFC Sculpture Park, a centerpiece of Dubai's urban cultural landscape, has been unveiling a captivating installation: "Le Nuage" by renowned Portuguese contemporary artist Miguel Rodrigues. This monumental sculpture, part of the "Tales Under the Gate" initiative by AWC Dubai, promises to engage and inspire visitors with its profound symbolism and striking aesthetics.

"Le Nuage," measuring an impressive 250x1200x200 cm and crafted from PET G plastic, represents clouds as symbols of dreams and future realities. According to Rodrigues, clouds embody the limitless possibilities and aspirations of humanity. "The clouds high up in the sky have always seemed unreachable to humanity," says Rodrigues. "To soar above the clouds is to go beyond the edge of the earth and see the planet in three dimensions instead of two."

Rodrigues' installation at DIFC encourages spectators to become participants, inviting them to interact with the art on a deeper level. This engagement aligns with the mission of Gate Avenue, the heart of the DIFC district, which blends retail, fashion, dining, and arts to create a continuous, walkable destination throughout the year.

Gate Avenue itself is a marvel of modern urban design, featuring over 300 retail, dining, and lifestyle outlets from global and regional brands. It aims to curate an exceptional experience for the community, seamlessly integrating daily life with artistic expression. This latest addition, "Le Nuage," enhances its reputation for iconic architecture and cultural vibrancy.

AWC Dubai, the visionary force behind this installation, was founded in 2021 by Turkish businessman and art collector Haldun Kilit. AWC aims to bridge international and local art scenes, fostering a dialogue between diverse cultures. "We are committed to making art accessible for everyone," says Kilit. "By introducing artists like Miguel Rodrigues to the region, we strive to create a synergy between cultures."

Miguel Rodrigues, who studied sculpture at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Lisbon, is celebrated for his hyperbaroque style. His works are modern reinterpretations of the baroque period, using gold plating to evoke luxury and power. Rodrigues' art has been exhibited across Europe, including prestigious venues such as the Catherine Palace in St. Petersburg and the Sakip Sabanci Museum in Istanbul.

"Le Nuage" is not just a sculpture; it is a reflection of hope and progress, embodying the dreams of a nation rising to the future. As part of the DIFC Sculpture Park, it stands as a testament to the transformative power of art in public spaces.
