Announcing the dates and curators of Tuwaiq Sculpture 2025

Sebastian Betancur-Montoya joins Tuwaiq Sculpture as the Curator of the upcoming 6th edition

ArtDayME: The curators and dates of the sixth Tuwaiq Sculpture — falling under Riyadh Art, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's first national public creative initiative — have been announced.

Sebastian Betancur-Montoya joins Tuwaiq Sculpture as the Curator of the upcoming 6th edition. With a landscape architect´s sensibility, an urbanist macro perspective and a maker’s eye for details, Sebastián develops public art masterplans and interventions as a curator; artist; and fabricator, interchangeably.

Also, Associate Curator of the Tuwaiq Sculpture is Dr. Manal AlHarbi. A pioneering Saudi artist and academic, and first female sculptor to earn both a Masters and PhD in the field. Her work explores traditional and modern art and spatial space.

The Tuwaiq Sculpture Symposium is now open for applications up to Sept. 1. The symposium aims to enhance the cultural and artistic landscape of Riyadh and will take place from Jan. 15 to Feb. 8, 2025, and the exhibition from Feb. 12 to 24, 2025.

About Tuwaiq Sculpture

Tuwaiq Sculpture is an annual sculpture symposium that brings local and international artists together to create public artworks in a live setting. Through an interactive program of workshops, school visits, and talks, Tuwaiq Sculpture engages diverse communities and bolsters cultural exchanges. The symposium culminates in an on-site exhibition, with the sculptures enriching the Riyadh Art collection and later becoming a permanent feature of the Saudi capital’s urban fabric.

Tuwaiq Sculpture is a platform where local and international artists meet, collaborate, and create large-scale public artworks in a live setting. The open format of the symposium allows the public to observe the creative process, participate in interactive workshops, and discuss the history and future of public art, effectively contributing to the enrichment of the cultural scene in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
