Watch: Bilory ArtHaus in Jeddah hosts 'Modernity Roots' exhibition
The exhibition features works by prominent Saudi artists AFM and Heba Ismail, both gaining recognition in the region.
ArtDayME: A new art exhibition in Jeddah, titled Modernity Roots, seeks to merge Saudi heritage with contemporary practices, challenging stereotypes and promoting innovation. Organized by Abdulrahman Kamil Mourad, founder of Bilory ArtHaus, the event aims to create a dynamic platform for artists and art enthusiasts.
According to Leaders Magazine, The exhibition draws inspiration from an Arabic term meaning origin and centrality, highlighting the date stone as Saudi culture’s vitality symbol. Mourad describes the exhibition as a declaration of Saudi roots and strength, affirming cultural heritage as a modern world’s guiding force.
The exhibition features works by prominent Saudi artists AFM and Heba Ismail, both gaining recognition in the region. AFM’s camel paintings blend pop art and cartoon abstraction with bold colors, exploring a modern identity rooted in tradition. Ismail’s The Holy Grail series uses a cubist approach to cultural identity, combining abstraction and vibrant colors to evoke deep emotional responses.
The exhibition is on view until the 15th of November.
