he exhibition title, inspired by Ali Farka Touré’s 1976 song ‘Sambadio,’ reflects themes of honoring the earth and celebrating farmers.
ArtDayME: Efiɛ Gallery hosts Abdoulaye Konaté's solo exhibiton.
The exhibition title, inspired by Ali Farka Touré’s 1976 song ‘Sambadio,’ reflects themes of honoring the earth and celebrating farmers. Connecting Touré’s lyrics, in which a father pleas for his son to respect the land, to Konaté’s work the show incorporates Bedouin culture and nomadic desert traditions, drawing parallels between West African and Middle Eastern cultures.
Konaté creates large textile installations using materials native to Mali. His abstract and figurative works address both aesthetic and socio-political issues, using textiles—a traditional West African form of communication—to explore global concerns alongside personal reflections on his homeland.
On view until 6 January, Dubai, Efie Gallery.
