Sharjah Art Foundation Has Revealed a Spectacular Lineup of Exhibitions For The Second Half of 2023

Artdayme: According to harpersbazaararabia, In the wake of the highly acclaimed Sharjah Biennial 15 (SB15), the Sharjah Art Foundation is keeping its artistic momentum alive with an exciting array of exhibitions, collaborations, and programs set to unfold in the second half of 2023. From thought-provoking showcases to captivating performances, art enthusiasts can expect an immersive journey through the world of contemporary art and culture.

Among the artists featured in the foundation’s upcoming exhibition are Turner Prize-winner Lubaina Himid, renowned for her groundbreaking work that challenges cultural narratives; painter and printmaker Gavin Jantjes, whose retrospective explores four decades of artistic expression; and telsem artist Henok Melkamer, whose intricate tapestries invite viewers into a world of vivid storytelling.

This year, the foundation’s commitment to global artistic exchange extends beyond its borders, collaborating with art institutes such as Tate St Ives, Deichtorhallen Hamburg, and KADIST.

Prepare to embark on a journey where creativity knows no bounds and cultural dialogues flourish.

Kicking off the lineup is In the Heart of Another Country: The Diasporic Imagination Rises, an exploration of the powerful diasporic narratives that shape our world. This eye-opening exhibition will be on view from 15 July to 24 September 2023 at Al Mureijah Square.

Next is the solo exhibition by Henok Melkamzer, whose masterful works will grace the walls of Al Hamriyah Studios from 14 October 2023 to 10 March 2024. The evocative pieces promise to take viewers on a transformative visual journey.

Art enthusiasts won’t want to miss Lubaina Himid: Plaited Time / Deep Water, which runs from 28 October 2023 to 28 January 2024. This exhibition, featuring the renowned Lubaina Himid, offers a profound exploration of time, identity, and societal narratives.

But the artistic excitement extends beyond Sharjah’s borders. The much-anticipated exhibition, The Casablanca Art School: Platforms and Patterns for a Postcolonial Avant-Garde 1962–1987, will captivate audiences at Tate St Ives in London from 27 May 2023 to 14 January 2024. And fear not, as this extraordinary exhibition will eventually make its way to the Sharjah Art Foundation in 2024, offering local art enthusiasts a chance to experience its transformative power.
