Iwan will offer Dubai Design Week audiences an immersive experience
Designed by emerging Saudi architects Abdulqader Alsuwaidan, Nawaf Alghamdi, Hayat Almousa and Lama Dardas, Iwan draws its inspiration from Islamic architecture.
ArtDayME: Iwan is the winning pavilion from the Tanween Foldable Pavilion Challenge, a collaboration between the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (, Mamou Mani Studio and ABYWAT.
Designed by emerging Saudi architects Abdulqader Alsuwaidan, Nawaf Alghamdi, Hayat Almousa and Lama Dardas, Iwan draws its inspiration from Islamic architecture, in particular ‘Iwan’, a distinctive transitional space, and ‘Muqarnas’, a form of ornamental decoration.
Iwan is crafted from folded aluminium panels and will offer Dubai Design Week audiences an immersive experience, as a symbolic gateway to vernacular architecture set in a contemporary context.
Dubai Design Week, the region’s leading design festival, will celebrate its 10th edition from 5th to 10th November, 2024, under the patronage of Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture.
The festival is set to feature an outstanding programme of new commissions, exhibitions, and events.
Held in strategic partnership with Dubai Design District (d3), part of TECOM Group PJSC, and supported by Dubai Culture, this year’s edition will reflect on a decade of design and its influence on the UAE and GCC's growing interior design and furniture markets, now collectively estimated at US$26 billion.
